Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about our solar, borehole, pump, and irrigation services.

Borehole & Water

Borehole drilling costs vary depending on depth, geological conditions, and location. In Kitui and surrounding areas, costs typically range from KES 3,500–6,000 per metre drilled. Additional costs include casing, screening, test pumping, and pump installation. Contact us for a free site assessment and accurate quote tailored to your location.
Most boreholes are completed within 1–3 days of drilling, depending on depth and rock formation. The full process — including hydrological survey, permit acquisition, drilling, test pumping, and pump installation — typically takes 2–4 weeks from start to finish.
A hydrological survey uses geophysical methods (such as Vertical Electrical Sounding) to map underground water-bearing formations before drilling. It identifies the best drilling location, estimates water depth and yield, and significantly reduces the risk of drilling a dry borehole. It is also required for WARMA and NEMA compliance.
Yes, we assist clients with the full permitting process including Water Resources Management Authority (WARMA) permits and National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) compliance documentation. We guide you through every step to ensure your borehole is legally compliant.
The most reliable way is through a professional hydrological survey. Our team uses geophysical methods including Vertical Electrical Sounding (V.E.S.) and Horizontal Electrical Profiling (H.E.P.) to map subsurface water-bearing formations. This scientific approach gives you confidence before investing in drilling.

Solar Energy

Our Hybrid Domestic Solar Package (from KES 360,000) includes a 5.12 kWh lithium battery (25.6V), 550W mono N-type solar panels, a 3000ES kW inverter, DC disconnect switch, and changeover switch. This system can power all domestic appliances except electric shower heads.
The standard hybrid package is designed to run all common household appliances — lights, TV, fridge, washing machine, iron, etc. — but electric shower heads draw extremely high power (typically 4,000–7,000W) and are not supported by the base system. A larger system can be customized to accommodate this. Contact us for a tailored quote.

Pumps & Irrigation

Pump sizing depends on your borehole depth, water table level, daily water requirements, and the distance to your storage tank. Our technical team will assess these factors and recommend the right pump. As a general guide: 200W pumps suit shallow wells (up to 30m), while 1300W pumps handle depths beyond 80m with higher output.
All our solar pump packages include: the submersible pump and motor, pump controller, 340W mono solar panels, 25mm 50M HDPE pipe, 4mm PV cable (10M), 2.5mm 2-core pump cable, adapters, breakers, and transport to your site. Prices start from KES 52,000 for the 200W system.
Yes! We specialize in converting existing electric borehole pumps to solar-powered systems. This eliminates ongoing electricity costs and provides reliable water supply even in off-grid areas. We assess your current pump setup and design a solar system to match or upgrade it.
The best irrigation system depends on your crop type, farm size, water source, and budget. Drip irrigation is ideal for row crops, vegetables, and fruit trees — it saves up to 60% more water than flood irrigation. Overhead/sprinkler systems suit larger fields and pasture crops. Our team will visit your farm and recommend the optimal system.

General

Absolutely. After-sales support is one of our core commitments. We provide 24/7 availability for breakdowns and servicing, routine maintenance scheduling, warranty support on all installed equipment, and technical guidance throughout the lifespan of your system.
While headquartered in Kitui Town, ANK Hydro Limited serves clients across Kenya. We have completed projects in multiple counties including Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Nairobi, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi, among others. Contact us to confirm service availability in your area.
We understand that water and energy infrastructure is a significant investment. While we primarily operate on project-based pricing, we can discuss flexible payment arrangements for larger projects. Contact us to explore options that work within your budget.
